Blood tests [Clinics run 08:00 to 13:30 Monday – Friday]
You can arrange an appointment to see our healthcare assistant for a blood test. Blood test can only be done during these times as the hospital courier collects the blood samples in he early afternoon. If you require a blood test in the afternoon, we can print your blood form at the practice for you to collect from our reception. You can then take the blood form to St Thomas’ Hospital, Guy’s Hospital or Gracefield Gardens (The Streatham Suite) to have your blood taken.
Cervical Smears
Cervical screening is a national screening programme aimed at detecting pre-cancerous changes at the cervix. If abnormalities are detected treatment can be initiated and thereby help prevent cancer.
The practice will contact you to inform you if you are ovrdue for your cervical smear test. If you are due for your smear, please contact our practice to book an appointment with our Practice Nurse.
Diabetes
The practice provides a nurse led Diabetic service primarily for patients with Type 2 diabetes. We provide support for those patients with Type 1 diabetes who are primarily managed by the hospital. There are also regular joint diabetic reviews with the community Diabetic specialist nurse, a Doctor from the St. Thomas Diabetic’s department, and the practice Nurse.
COPD
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease is the result of damage to the lungs caused by smoking. We also provide clinics to assess the damage and initiate appropriate treatment and support to patients who suffer with COPD. We have access to pulmonary rehabilitation courses which take patients through a 6 week programme to maintain good lung function which is important with this condition. We also run a virtual clinic which means we can request more specialised advice and management for our patients if necessary by working with the respiratory team at St.Thomas Hospital.
Heart Disease
This service is for our patients who have Coronary Heart Disease. Again we use a good link service with St. Thomasas Hospital Cardiac team in the form of virtual clinics to provide on-going care for our patients.
Health Checks
Over 40? Under 75?
We provide cardiovascular disease risk checks which involve taking a history to assess your risk, measuring your blood pressure and weight, and usually arranging a blood test to check for cholesterol level and diabetes. We are then able to offer advice and treatment for diet, smoking, alcohol consumption and exercise which are all part of living healthily.
Minor surgery
We currently offer cryotherapy for some warts and verrucas in practice. Please book an appointment to see the GP if you would like advice. Our GP also carries out injections for joints.
Minor procedures which require cutting out lesions such as moles or fatty lumps are done locally with a referral from your GP. Please make an appointment with your GP if you wish to discuss this further.
Contraception and Sexual Health
We provide a range of family planning services but at present are unable to offer IUD (coil) fitting or implants. For these services you would need to attend a local family planning clinic. For further information and advice and to help you decide what method of contraception you would prefer, book an appointment with a doctor or nurse.
We also provide sexual health screening for male and female patients of any age. If you have symptoms and are concerned book an appointment with our nurse to organise a test. We can test for Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, Syphilis, HIV, hepatitis B and C
Alternatively for a full sexual health check you can attend the Lydia clinic at St Thomas’s hospital without an appointment or at the Riverside sexual Health clinic
Additional resource for sexual health for young people:-
There is also a new online sexual health service (SH:24) which allows you to test for Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, Syphilis and HIV. It is free and confidential.
Patients can see a doctor for advice on termination of pregnancy. Additionally, patients can also self-refer themselves to local services:

Private Medical Examinations
We are able to carry out medical examinations for HGV drivers, PSV drivers, and Taxi drivers for the London Carriage Office. We also perform diving medicals for those who wish to do their PADI qualification. In addition, we provide medicals for patients who are taking out critical illness cover and life insurance. Reception is able to provide you with the cost of these medicals.
Child immunisations
Please see the video below constructed by our 3rd Year Medical Students. For more information on the important of the MMR vaccination, please see: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/vaccinations/mmr-vaccine/
Community Nursing Services
We liaise with the community nursing team, which is made up of District Nurses, Health Visitors and School Nurses, Mental Health community nursing services and Community Drug and Alcohol services in order to maintain continuity of care.
Counselling and Psychological Therapies Services
We have access to a variety of specialist Counselling and Psychotherapy services including CBT available locally on the NHS to which you may be referred.
If you have more particular issues such as depression and anxiety, phobias, anger management, post-traumatic stress, or other problems then these services may well be appropriate. Again please make an appointment with your GP if you think you have concerns that may be helped by this service.
Palliative Care
This is a service that is offered to those who are nearing the end of life. We work closely with the team from the hospital and endeavour to make this difficult time as smooth as possible for the patient and their family.
LOCALLY NHS LAMBETH CCG NO LONGER SUPPORTS THE ROUTINE PRESCRIBING OF MEDICATIONS FOR COMMON CONDITIONS SUCH AS ACUTE (SHORT-TERM) ILLNESSES, MINOR AND/OR SELF-LIMITING CONDITIONS SUCH AS HEADACHE, COUGHS AND COLDS.
Ask your pharmacist for advice
Your local pharmacist can give you friendly, expert advice on self care of common conditions. They can recommend over-the-counter medicines that can help with lots of common conditions.
Many pharmacies are open during evenings and weekends so you can see your local pharmacist anytime. Just walk in, you don’t need an appointment. You can have a confidential consultation with the pharmacist in a private area of the pharmacy.
If your condition needs the attention of a GP or another healthcare professional, the pharmacist will recognise this. They will advise you to see your GP or the most appropriate healthcare professional.
You can find your nearest pharmacist on the NHS Choices website
